2013 Chardonnay SOLD OUT
This is my 14th vintage making Chardonnay at Savaterre and I think I might just have finally come close to where I want it to be! This is a wine that has proudly sat alongside the best Chevalier Montrachets and not looked out of place at all. Power, restraint, complexity and length. Constantly evolving in the glass.
2013 was, I thought, an average vintage. Not the best, not the worst just somewhere in the middle, but the wines of this vintage just keep improving. All wines are shining this year. Lively and alive. These wines proudly shout their provenance.
The bouquet is complex, tight and restrained. Gradually and teasingly revealing grapefruit, white peach, pear, acacia, with a intense stony minerality, slate, gun smoke and a hint of lime blossom, gardenia and truffled honey. A veritable olfactory strip tease!
On the palate layers of rich and vinous fruit. Velvety yet robust. Mouth-filling, powerful, intense yet very refined, focused and defined with vibrant acidity. The finish is very long with a very intense focusing minerality. A quite monumental Savaterre.
All grapes under this label are sourced from the Savaterre Vineyard in Beechworth.
It is imperative to open this wine at least 2 hours ahead of drinking if you are going to experience the layers of complexity the palate has to deliver. This is particularly relevant if you intend to enjoy to consume this wine in the next 5 years.
