2014 Chardonnay SOLD OUT
"Great release here. Potent scents of sandalwood, stone fruit, green apples, wet ferns. Palate is silky, oak slips into soft fruit character and acidity sits glossy underneath. It’s got that feel of supreme elegance and balance. Decadence yet refreshment. Opulence yet control. The quibble will be how much oak you like in chardonnay, and it’s a distinct, lavish feature, but there’s fruit power to back it up. Decanting and cellaring will reward. Rated : 94+ Points "

2014 was a lovely vintage in many ways. It was also a nightmare!
After setting very little fruit in late spring the problems were compounded by a flock of trespassing sheep from the neighbors. I quickly found out sheep adore Chardonnay and Pinot! I chased them off multiple times and was left a very small crop of Chardonnay and next to nothing Pinot Noir. So the upside of this severe pruning are some incredibly powerful wines without a sacrifice in finesse, however they are very limited in availability.
The 2014 Savaterre Chardonnay’s nose is bursting with white orchard fruits – notes of pear, white peach and hints of more exotic fruits – it’s powered and focused by the both powerful and refined minerality.
On the palate crystal clear, intense and powerful – with a focused and precise fruit. This is a very refined and precise wine with great acidity that also offers tremendous power and length.
I'm impressed with this vintage!
All grapes under this label are sourced from the Savaterre Vineyard in Beechworth.
It is imperative to open this wine at least 2 hours ahead of drinking if you are going to experience the layers of complexity the palate has to deliver. This is particularly relevant if you intend to enjoy to consume this wine in the next 5 years.
