2015 Chardonnay SOLD OUT

"This is, without a doubt, a compelling wine. It has a beguiling richness, and although there are notes of pineapple and nougat, there is also underlying grapefruit and lemon. The way these two opposing elements are entwined is nothing short of impressive. There is a seamless integration of the elements. Though I must stress, it is not an overly fruity wine. In fact, its presentation is decidedly savoury with inherent oatmeal characters. And then there is the acidity, which is more like a supporting basket than a core. And the texture? Perfect. It is a serious wine for purposeful drinking. It needs chilling, but not too much. Decanting? Most definitely. Time for quiet appreciation? A must. Rated : 95"

2015 - What a vintage!

Powerful, harmonious aromas of citrus flowers, pear, stone fruit, flint, nougat and toasted hazelnuts results in an aromatic tension and complexity without sacrificing freshness and minerality.

The palate has a striking intensity of flavour. An abundance of citrus, stone fruit, freshly sliced pear, spices, and mineral some coffee, a touch of gun smoke, pronounced spice, and subtle, integrated oak. All these complex flavours are underpinned by an underlying raciness and bright acidity. Amazing length with Savaterre's signature stony minerality.

A perfect, gentle grape growing and wine making season. The mature 20 year old, close-planted vineyard with roots searching deep into the earth allowed the terroir of Savaterre to express itself fully.

These elements, combined with our importation of wonderful Cavin oak barrels from Burgundy, which synergize their long experience working alongside some of Frances’ greatest winemakers, have enabled me to craft our 2015 Savaterre wines even more precisely.

Definitely a vintage to remember!

All grapes under this label are sourced from the Savaterre Vineyard in Beechworth.

It is imperative to open this wine at least 2 hours ahead of drinking if you are going to experience the layers of complexity the palate has to deliver. This is particularly relevant if you intend to enjoy to consume this wine in the next 5 years.
